Expedition Overview
On May 7th 2007, I will embark from Columbus, New Mexico on a five month, 3100 mile journey across the country with a riding horse, a pack mule and a dog.
My aim is to travel the full breadth of the United States of America at the highest possible elevation with the greatest possible time in the backcountry.
The vast majority of this route will be along the National Scenic Continental Divide Trail. I am using the route recommended by the Continental Divide Trail Society for almost the entirety of the journey.
I will travel an average of 24 miles a day, 6 days a week and resupply approximately every 150 miles. My goal arrival date at the Canadian border in Glacier National Park is September 30th, but the expedition may extend to the middle of October.
No one has managed to complete this trail on horseback in one season, and I intend to be the first to achieve the wildest possible cowgirl adventure in the lower 48.
This expedition is about one young woman's dream of freedom, the grandeur and challenge of America's wilderness, and the trials and exultations that will occur when the two come together.
